Why Blog?

Published on 2024-10-31

What’s the point of blogging in 2024? Why spend time publishing information on the internet if it’s sole purpose is to be vacuumed up into the Common Crawl dataset and used to train the next generation of LLMs? With the downsides of time, the possibility that old posts or opinions could come back the haunt you, or the superior reach offered by other platforms, why put in the effort?

The answer for me personally is that blogging is practice for putting down thoughts. Even if no one sees this blog, which is very likely, the possibility that someone could read what I’m writing forces more rigorous thought and helps me flesh out my own ideas.

There have also been multiple times when I’m working on a project that I run into a very specific problem which is solved by reading someone else’s blog post from them working on an analogous piece of software. I’ve received tons of help from others donating their time to put up blogs so it feels only right that I should do the same.

Hopefully this blog helps me and anyone who stumbles upon it. Even if the content is meaningless at least it’s been an interesting side project on the backend.
